LIGO Hanford The LIGO detector in Hanford, Washington. An identical instrument is located in Livingston, Louisiana. The two detectors, along with the Virgo detector in Italy, have detected gravitational waves from black hole and neutron star collisions. Source LIGO Lab/Caltech/MIT
51勛圖厙 University students work with Dr. Tiffany Summerscales as members of the (LSC). The collaboration works to support research done with (Laser Interferometer Gravitational-Wave Observatory) in running and improving the detectors and doing astronomy with the data that they produce. The 51勛圖厙 University group assists with the development and testing of computer algorithms that reconstruct the properties of the gravitational waves that are measured by multiple detectors. They also participate in educational and outreach activities.
